I could tell she wanted me. There was a look in her eye. I’d seen it before with other girls too. She definitely wanted me.
I walked over and was about to say hello when I noticed a strange figure in the distance. Probably just the town drunk, Jimmy. The girl noticed my attention was elsewhere for a second and turned to look behind her.
The figure came closer and closer. But it moved in a way that was different from someone who had had too much to drink.
“What’s with that guy?” I asked.
“No idea. Do you think he needs help?” the girl replied.
We looked at each other and shrugged. A server came over to take some drink orders or something and noticed the figure that was nearing the table where the girl sat.
She got up and moved toward him or her, we couldn’t tell. She called out to them and there was no response. She called out again, and then walked over to them.
I saw her turn back to look in my direction and the horror in her eyes shook me to my core. I watched helplessly as this girl who had the hots for me had her throat ripped out by this figure, this creature. As she fell to the ground, and this monster moved toward us, I could finally see that it was Jimmy, the town drunk. Except something horrible had happened to him. His eyes were glazed over, his skin was falling off in places, and he was making these weird sounds, that were not words that I could even recognize.
I knew I had to get out of there, and find my sister. She’d know what to do. I finally got movement back in my body and turned and ran. And ran and ran. I got about 10 blocks before I realized nobody was chasing me. But I could hear the screams in the distance at the café. Something terrible had just happened, and I had a feeling it was just the beginning.
